Meta Tags & SEO for Small Business Websites – Simple Guide to Rank on Google
Quick answerUse a page title with your main service and city (under 60 characters), a description that says what you offer and why to call (under 160), verify your site in Google Search Console, and keep your name, address and phone the same everywhere.
The 3 meta tags that matter most
- Title – shown as the blue link on Google. Formula: Main service in City – Business name.
- Description – the grey text under it. Say what you offer, where, and one reason to choose you.
- Keywords – helpful for you to plan content; Google uses them very little.
The builder fills these for you with AI, shows a Google preview, and counts characters so nothing gets cut off.
Verify with Google Search Console
In Search Console choose URL prefix, select the HTML tag method and paste the tag into SEO & Tags → Google Search Console. Publish, then press Verify.
Custom meta tags
Need something extra like author or a verification tag from another service? Add it under Custom meta tags. Tags that could break your site (like refresh or viewport) are blocked automatically.
Local SEO checklist
- Same business name, address and phone on your website, Google Business Profile and social pages.
- An FAQ section answering real customer questions (the builder adds FAQ schema for Google).
- Your own photos with clear captions.
- Ask happy customers to review you on Google – never add fake reviews.
- Share your website link on WhatsApp and social media.
