Unilevel MLM software might seem simpler than binary on the surface — no left-right balancing, no weak leg calculations, no spillover complications. But building unilevel software that performs well with large networks has its own set of challenges that most developers underestimate.
In a binary plan, the tree depth grows fast but width is always two. In a unilevel plan, width is unlimited. A distributor might have 50 or 500 people on their first level. When the system needs to calculate commissions for someone who has 500 direct referrals, each with their own large networks, the query complexity increases dramatically. The database needs to be indexed and structured specifically for wide tree traversal, otherwise commission runs start timing out as the network grows.
The admin should be able to define commission percentages for each level — for example, 10% on level 1, 8% on level 2, 5% on level 3, down to 1% on level 10. The system calculates each distributor's earnings by traversing their downline to the configured depth and applying these percentages to the business volume at each level.
Unilevel plans typically use ranks to unlock higher commission rates and additional bonuses. The software needs to track rank qualification criteria — personal volume, group volume, number of active legs, and maintain rank status based on ongoing performance. If a distributor qualifies for a rank one month but does not maintain the criteria the next month, the system needs to handle the rank downgrade and its impact on commissions.
This is where unilevel plans get interesting for top performers. A check matching bonus pays a percentage of the commissions earned by distributors in your downline. For example, you might earn 10% of whatever your personally sponsored distributors earn, 5% of what their personally sponsored distributors earn, and so on. Calculating this requires the system to first compute each person's base commissions and then run a secondary calculation for matching — all without circular references or double counting.
Displaying a unilevel tree with 500+ nodes on the first level is a UI challenge. The software needs pagination, search, and filter capabilities so distributors can actually navigate their organization. A flat list view alongside a visual tree view gives users both perspectives.
| Scope | Price (INR) | Timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Basic unilevel (5-7 levels, no matching) | 20,000 – 50,000 | 1 – 2 weeks |
| Unilevel with ranks and matching | 50,000 – 1,50,000 | 2 – 3 weeks |
| Unilevel with e-commerce integration | 1,00,000 – 3,00,000 | 3 – 5 weeks |
| Full platform with mobile app | 2,00,000 – 5,00,000 | 5 – 8 weeks |
The biggest technical challenge in unilevel software is commission calculation speed at scale. When a network has 100,000 distributors spread across 10 levels, a single commission run might need to process millions of level relationships. Without proper database optimization — including materialized path patterns, closure tables, or nested set models — these calculations can take hours instead of seconds.
A well-built unilevel system should be able to process a full commission run for 100,000+ distributors in under 5 minutes. If your developer cannot guarantee this, the software will become a bottleneck as your business grows.
